Wisconsin Poll: Majority of Voters Believe State Is Trending in the Wrong Direction

Wisconsin voters are increasingly concerned about inflation and believe the state is trending in the wrong direction, according to a new Marquette Law School poll.

The survey, which contacted 802 registered voters in the state and had a 3.8 percent margin of error, raises new concerns for Democrats, as the midterm elections draw closer and President Joe Biden maintains low approval numbers.

According to the data, 53 percent of the respondents say the state is heading in the wrong direction, substantially higher than the 39 percent that supports the trend.

Furthermore, the downward trend of the approval for the state’s direction seemingly began after President Biden took office. When comparing the results to previous polls, the group notes that “[n]egative views rose sharply in 2021 and have remained little changed.”

Similarly, President Biden’s approval is underwater in the state, with 52 percent disapproving and only 43 approving.

Potentially connected to Biden’s job performance numbers, voters are overwhelmingly concerned about inflation. Sixty-eight percent of voters are “very concerned” about the issue, in addition to the 28 percent that are “somewhat concerned.”

Despite the low approval numbers, Biden visited the state on Wednesday to tout the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill that passed Congress and was signed into law. Previously, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Brew City, also promoting the same legislation.

“Joe Biden’s public relations stop in Superior only exemplifies why his approval ratings are plummeting – he’s too busy planning photo-ops to focus on the issues that matter. Amid his attacks on mining, threats to pipelines like Line 5 and halting of Keystone XL, and failure to continue American energy independence, no amount of photo-ops will stop rural Wisconsinites from leaving the Democrat Party in droves,” said the Republican Party of Wisconsin in a statement.
